Scope and Contents

Collection includes reports, handbooks, correspondence, and other administrative documents pertaining to the operation of the Division of Continuing Education and the College of Adult and Lifelong Learning under the leadership of Dean Daniel Lettman, Brenton Stevenson, Clyde Balch, Thomas Clapp and Donald McHugh. Major topics documented include: UT facilities use, the university’s advertising and promotion committee, the Ohio Board of Regents, the Seagate Center, computer training programs at area companies, the Grosser Scholarship, and Title 1 of the 1965 Higher Education Act supporting continuing education as a way to solve community problems. Also included are early bulletins of the evening session program, personal letters from students to instructors, records of industry, community and interuniversity course collaborations, and much more.

In 1995, continuing education became a part of University College. The College of Adult and Lifelong Learning was abolished in 2016.

Conditions Governing Access

Collection is open for research. Materials may be accessed by request at the Ward M. Canaday Center for Special Collections on the fifth floor of the William S. Carlson Library on the main campus of the University of Toledo. Materials do not circulate.
